The
Farmers' Organisation was set up in the Department of Agriculture
in 1972 with the establishment of its first Area Farmers' Organisation
(AFO) at Stumbin in 1973. Since then, 28 AFOs have been established.
The
activities of Area Farmers' Organisation are as listed below:
- Purchasing
To
supply members with agricultural inputs and daily necessities
of reliable quality and at reasonable price.
- Marketing
To
provide farmers with marketing services and other related activities.
- Warehousing
For
storage of wwedcide, insecticide, fertiliser and other farm equipment
to meet members seasonal, requirement.
- Processing
To
embark on processing of major agricultural produce like padi,
cocoa, coconut, etc.
- Transportation
and farm mechanisation service
To
provide transportation and farm mechanism service for members.
- Supervised
farm credit
To
provide members with soft loans for agricultural production.
- Rural
Saving Scheme
To
provide facilities for members to save.
- Welfare
and Social Activities
Localised
programmes that include incentives to members' children in academic
achievement and relief fund to deceased members' family.
